“Around a year ago we desperately needed a name for the new test management software we had been working on. We aren’t very good with names. In fact, we used a codename for the project until the very last minute, so that we didn’t have to come up with the product name earlier. Still, even with many months to think about a name, it was difficult to find one that we liked.”

How to find a great software product name

The worst problem is get “the” name… just to find out that the right domain has been registered already.
When we were looking for a name for our remote support tool we felt the SupportSmith (like those spread over everywhere Smith Agents from Matrix) would be great, but it was already taken. Luckily the original registrar was happy to transfer it.
I love happy endings!
Hi Mariana,
I fully agree that acquiring the domain name is often the hardest part in finding a name. Most .com domains are already taken and negotiating with existing domain owners is often not a pleasure.

Not exactly a breaking new, but it pointed me back to the one you wrote.
Cheers!
