I agree, the third-party community is definitely one of the advantages of Delphi.

Thanks for that (BCB2006 man myself). The main reason why I stick with BCB/Delphi is because of the fantastic range of affordable third-party components. I think it levels the playing field for us smaller smaller developers.

Thanks, Orson. The Console is indeed written in Delphi, originally in Delphi 7 and ported to Delphi 2006 a few months ago.

We use some (heavily modified) components from DevExpress for the toolbars, menus, docking and general look and feel. Moreover we use Indy for the TCP server and several other nice open source components like the JCL, Virtual TreeView, Tnt, UniSynEdit or the mirkes.de Hex Editor. In retrospect I think Delphi was the right choice for the Console, especially because of the Virtual TreeView component (it’s used everywhere in the Console).

Hi Michael, thanks for the comment and kind words. Yes, we were really busy getting the new version out yesterday and announcing it on all the development sites (there are a lot of them!). I hope some of our blog postings and articles were useful/interesting to you!

Wow, I just have to leave a comment here right now. For the last five minutes I was browsing this site, unsuspecting, reading a couple of posts (and actually contemplating buying SmartInspect ), and just as I’m about to leave, bang, you guys release announce the new version!

Definitely looks like a cool product, though problably overkill for most of my small-scale projects.
